Do you ever feel like you have taken 3 steps back after taking 1 step forward?
Seriously, I cannot be the only one.
Well, that’s how I feel when it comes to keeping my house together.
Like I’ve said, I have five little people and if you are like me you are always looking for better organization.
My home can easily go from clean house to toys being everywhere. Clothes can be where they don’t belong. It can go to total destruction in a blink of an eye.
I knew it was time to better organize my closet when one day while I was playing hide and seek with my children, upon finding one hiding out in my closet, I discovered my 12ft clothing rack on the floor on the left side of the closet.
Needless to say my clothes had fallen on the floor too. At that moment, I knew I needed to purge.

Heck, I thought I did a pretty good darn job of organizing. My closet has sections for jeans, dresses, shirts, skirts, etc. I even rotate my summer and winter clothes (if I don’t get lazy).
My mommy life is busy and I’m sure yours is too so I have compiled a list to help make your life a little easier when it comes to your closet.
Better Closet Organization
1. Don’t over crowd
If you don’t use it then loose it. Ask yourself these questions: Does it still fit? Is it damaged? Do I love the way it looks on me? If you haven’t worn a clothing item within the past 6 months then give it to goodwill. (I do, and write it off as a tax deduction).
2. Keep closet floor clear
You can use clothing rods, wall hooks, and storage baskets that easily push onto shelves to help keep a clean and clear floor.
If you have a ton of bottoms like me, folding your jeans and placing them on a shelf will save room (and save you from broken hangers, lol). Also fold and store heavy sweaters so that won’t loose shape on hangers.
Use cubbies, tiered shelving, or hanging organizers to keep shoes organized and off your floor space.
5. Color coordinate
If you color coordinate your clothes it will be easier to find them. It can even save you time if you are in a hurry.
Invest in shelf dividers to create a neater space. You can use it for handbags, accessories, or other smaller items that could be better arranged without having to box it. Chances are if you do box it, you will forget about it.
Don’t forget that you can use your doors for organization too. You can hang a shoe rack or jewelry organizer on it. You can also get a rack with hooks to hang jackets or hang scarves on it as well.
8. Too many shorts
Go out and buy shower curtain rings. Loop the ring through the side buckle loop of the shorts and loop the ring around the clothing rack.
9. Sheet sets
Use pillowcases. Fold your sheet sets up and store them in pillowcases. If you are like me I throw out the package the sheets came in after I use them. So when I wash and put them up they slide on the shelf. This is a great idea to keep them together and neat.
I hope you are able to put these ideas to use so you can start better organizing your closet space.
